The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an international organisation consisting of 57 member states. The organisation states that it is “the collective voice of the Muslim world” and works to “safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony” The OIC has a permanent delegation to the United Nations, and is the largest international organisation outside the United Nations. Thailand is currently in protracted negotiations with a key militant group, political arm, BRN, where the BRN is using the negotiations to legitimize its position globally and with OIC, while its militant arm, and other armed fraction, have stepped up its often terrorism-like activity. Earlier, Human Rights Watch, said the militant, in admitting to attack innocent civilians, is a quote: “War Crime Act.” Even with the BRN’s “Dual Track” approach, in negotiation to lift its global profile and the continued use of violent tactics, the Thai government, particularly Thailand’s intelligence apparatus, says having an open communication channel with the BRN is a positive step. Matichon reports, apart from the OIC issue, Yingluck also told the Thai army chief, Prayuth, to investigate the violence in the Deep South, to pin-point, if the activity is related to separatist activity, or other causes such as controlling the black market activity, as according to Yingluck, there are conflicting reports as to the cause of many violent activity in the Deep South. Most neutral Western observer says, the problem in the Deep South involves mainly the aged old problem of the Bangkok elite, seeing the Muslim majority in the Deep South as a second class citizen who are therefore, badly treated for decades.
