PTTGC, hit with a crude oil leak that have contaminated a pristine beach, is trying to contain damage from the leak, galvanizing a clean-up effort. The oil slick broke through sea-based barriers last night, as strong waves push the oil slick across the barrier. The barrier was put up to protect an popular tourist island, Samet. By early morning hours, the oil slick have hit some beaches, causing an environmental night-mare. About 50 tons of oil was leak from PTTGC oil infrastructure in the Gulf of Thailand. The leak is not greatly significant, by global standard, and is considered a moderate size leak. However, this is one of the first oil related environmental disaster in Thailand’s recent memory. investors dumped the stock heavily and at about morning close, the share was down about 2% against a market that was down by about 1.5%. Analyst told Khao Hun, an investment newspaper in Thailand, that investors fear the law-suit for the damaged involved. (Source)
