Latest export target growth at 7.5%, Eurozone flood may weight

With a weakening baht, from about 29 baht to the dollar to current 31 baht to the dollar, Thailand’s export target will be maintained at 7-7.5 per cent this year. Competition is expected to be tough  despite tough competition in the global market, a senior Commerce Ministry official said. Srirat Rastapan, and the Eurozone flooding could impact the target said a Thai official. International Trade Promotion Department director general, said the depreciating baht will contribute to export expansion while the public and private sectors will jointly find new overseas markets to compensate the recent losses. She said the export target was lowered from the original 8-9 percentage but expressed concern that massive floods in several European countries will affect Thai exports. Thailand will have to further penetrate the US market and find new markets in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, she said. The International Trade Promotion Department has promoted Thai products under “Thailand Trust Mark” to ensure the quality and standard of goods and services from the kingdom, she said. (Source)
